CLAY SHOOTER CASE STUDY: EYE DOMINANCE

Overview of problem:

Peter discovered that he had eye dominance problem when he took up clay shooting and he found it difficult to shoot a moving object. Many other members of his club seemed to have the same problem and were trying to overcome the issue by squinting or smearing their glasses with Vaseline. Unlike other rifle sports, a clay shooter needs both eyes open to track and judge timing and position and their ability to do this properly is affected if the two eyes are not working together.

Peter thought there had to be a better solution and met with the experts at Sports Vision.

Treatment:

• In-depth Sports Vision screening confirmed eye dominance, focussing and contrast sensitivity problem
• Client was found to have a cataract and was referred to Ipswich Hospital
• New lens and frames were fitted for everyday wear
• New lens for shooting
• Reassessed at regular intervals to ensure cataract settled down well
• All visual issues overcome, client’s performance has improved dramatically
